Nashville Symphony Performs Beethoven’s “Ninth”
Nashville Symphony Performs Beethoven’s “Ninth” By: Christopher Martin
On the 10th and 11th of September the Nashville Symphony will be performing one of Ludwig van Beethoven’s most famous works. Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125
“Choral” The last movement contains the famous “Ode to Joy” This piece was the final symphony composed by Beethoven. Completed in 1824 the Ninth is one of the best known pieces of music in the world. It is one of the first cases where voices were used in a symphony. The Ninth first premiered in Vienna on May 7, 1824. The drama of the music unfolds with a quiet, somber effect transitioning to and exuberant, emotional and explosive choral finale. With the events that transpired on September 11, 2001, this piece of music translates a feeling of sorrow, humility, joy, and a feeling of resiliency. This will truly make you feel the healing power that music has to offer. No matter who you are, this concert is sure to impress. This monumental piece of music will be the kick off to an amazing 2010/2011 concert season for the Nashville Symphony. Due to the ongoing renovation of the symphony’s home, this concert will be held at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in the War Memorial Auditorium located at 301 Sixth Ave Nashville, TN 37243. Great article very informative
nice article… very well done!
Short and sweet and all that is needed for this incredible work. This symphony is a joy to hear and to perform; the Old Man really got it right on this one. Many church-goers will recognize the theme as a great worship hymn as well (hymn tune: ODE TO JOY).
Nicely done. Like the background information offered.
No mention of the movie that brought this price to the fore of American culture. “Die Hard”, anyone?
